The first music Lorelei ever heard was “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. Â For Rowan, it was “The One Who Knows”, by Dar Williams. Â I’d actually intended this to be the first song Lorelei heard, as well, but in the midst of pushing a baby out I didn’t think to tell someone to turn it on. Â Imagine that.
Right now the plan is for me to room in at the hospital with Rowan tomorrow night. Â Discharge still won’t be until Sunday, but the room is only available for tomorrow night. Â So okay. Â I’ll get a meal tray, and some relatively quiet time with my son before he comes home. Â The nurses will be around to check on us, but I will do all of his care (temperature, diapers, weights, feeding), though the nurses will do the vitals, of course.
Soon, hopefully.
The doctor said possibly this weekend. Â There are so many things that can prolong the stay that I’m very wary of getting my hopes up.
Plan for today is just to let Rowan keep doing what Rowan is doing. Â Tube is still out. Â He managed to get full feeds yesterday without it.
Just some random bits and pieces.
The nurses and doctors are all impressed at his nursing ability. Â One of the doctors mentioned twice that he had a latch score of ten. Â I just assumed she was just saying that as an expression. Â But evidently that is an actual scoring system. Â And preemies don’t usually get tens. Â His latch really is great. Â I think that his latch is better at one month (negative 3.5 weeks adjusted) that Lorelei’s was… ever. Â Though, I’m basing this partly on my lack of pain, and since I’m only nursing him twice a day it really isn’t a fair comparison.
After one false start, the ng tube is gone! Â It is possible that it will have to be put back in, but we are giving it a trial run to see how he does with ad lib feeding. Â So far he’s doing pretty well. Â But poor baby is really gassy and clearly has an upset tummy. Â The two aren’t related, but it is too bad his first day of all oral feeds is also a day he doesn’t feel great.
