Want Me To Write a Book? I Need Your Help!

I’m going to write a book.

A book. There. I said it. And it’s terrifying. The self doubts that I pushed to the side to make this decision came roaring back the second the decision was made. I am sure I am supposed to appear super confident as I prepare to ask you for money. But that would go against the authenticity I hold dearly when writing.

Though my final jump into this idea is recent, the idea of a book has been brewing for years. FormerTherapist and I talked about it at least once a month as I remained steadfastly noncommittal.

In the meantime, I kept waiting for a book to be Athena — for it to jump fully formed out of my head. For me to commit to writing it, I needed it to be already written. Unfortunately, that sort of thing only happens in Doctor Who.

I came up with so many reasons against writing a book, some more valid than others. My fear and uncertainty were so big that OCD jumped in to “help.” And by “help,” I mean it told me that I would die if I decided to write a book.

Recently, I’ve thought a lot about the “real” obstacles. The problems I can solve and that are actually within the realm of my control. I need accountability, money to make the space to write, and a community urging me forward even when it feels overwhelming. I need people to bounce ideas off of, to tell me when my words hit the mark and when they fall short. I need a community to grow around this book.

The answer to all of this is creating a Patreon account. I have 4,300+ Facebook followers, of which at least some are actual humans and not Russian bots. I have a small but mighty number of dedicated followers. I’d love to build this book with you because jeebus knows I can’t do it alone.

The tiers start at the low, low price of $2 per month

Though personally, I think the $5 tier is a great deal.

If you have felt moved by my work, I would love for you to consider supporting me. Patreon says not to use words like, “support” or “donate” because I guess it thinks people are inherently selfish assholes who will only part with their money when something is in it for them. But I think y’all like being supportive when you can. And, if you like my writing, there is something in it for you! I plan for this page to become a community outside of the scope of this book. I want to give you insight into the book-writing process. I will share some essays I’ve never published for my $5+ tiers. I’ve got a couple of posts up on the Patreon page that give more information on the book and the perks of supporting it.
