I no longer know when one illness begins and another ends. In the last month I had a cold, Zach, Rowan, and I have all had a stomach bug, Lorelei had a high fever, both kids got pink eye, Rowan had an ear infection, Rowan got another stomach bug, Zach got pink eye, Lorelei threw up, and this morning Zach and I both woke up with sore throats.
Do you use a Petri dish with viruses? I don’t know how to science.
Everyone is sort of sneezy and snotty, and Rowan started coughing and wheezing. I stayed home with him yesterday, glad that this seemed to be a regular cold, and not another Bronchiolitis-level illness.
I am one of the lucky ones. Privilege is basically pouring out of my white, educated, middle class ears. I’m reminded of this as I begin a post in which I am going to lament, bitch, whine, and rant about the lack of adequate paid family leave in this country.
I have nothing but respect for stay at home moms and single moms. For many reasons, but not least because parenting while sick is torture. Forget waterboarding, just give suspected terrorists a cold and two children.
