Prematurity

All bottled up

Rowan got his first bottle today!  Happy mother’s day to me!  They are going to give him a bottle once per day until he gets the hang of it.  Then we can work on nursing some more.

It is amazing how having a baby in the NICU changes your perspective.  With Lorelei her first bottle was not something I celebrated.  I avoided the paci until breastfeeding was established.

Now here I am thinking latch-smatch… we’ll figure that out when the time comes.  For now I just have to focus on pumping enough to keep a decent supply, and taking it all one day at a time.

I took Lorelei to visit last night.  She did a great job.  I let her pack a book bag of a few quiet toys, and she occupied herself very well.  11258353_10153325423699846_645050484034378173_n

Holding him is getting easier, too.  I’m more used to his tiny weight and body.  And also the lack of IV has made things easier.  The ng tube is easy to maneuver, since it is short and not connected to anything most of the time.  And if I pull a lead off it’s no big deal, we just stick it back on.
